Christmas Wishes *** FS40 Challenge @ SCS
Hello everyone! When I read the Splitcoaststampers Featured Stamper Challenge this week, I was so tickled! This week’s Featured Stamper is StampOwl, a.k.a. Frances Byrne. Frances is on the Hanna Stamps DT with me, and she has a marvelous gallery at SCS! When you play the Featured Stamper Challenge, the first thing you do is peruse the person’s gallery, then select one of their cards to “CASE”. When you stamp, you need to change at least 3 things about their card for your own version. I knew I needed another project for my SU Stampin’ Club this week, so I looked for a layout with that in mind. One of the members has requested that we do more Christmas stamping, so I knew my theme and I knew I wanted to use “Peaceful Wishes” as the stamp set. Here’s StampOwl’s card that I selected as my inspiration. I felt that this layout would work well with my ‘Peaceful Wishes’ plan … and indeed, I’m happy with how it worked out.
My first sample is very close to the inspiration card …. in that I still used the Cuttlebug dry embossing folder. I love the elegant touch it gives.
Then I realized that I should create one that uses 100% Stampin’ Up! products for my class, so I immediately began to work on the second sample! Even though I prefer the rich look of the wider grosgrain, I only have the narrow grosgrain in Burgundy & Artichoke. So, I doubled-up on the ribbon to achieve a richer look on this sample. Instead of the brads in the inspiration, I’ve exchanged that idea for paper piercing in the lower corner of the image layer.
I’ve included a couple of steps on the central image. First, I very lightly inked the Linen background with Creamy Caramel ink, and very lightly applied it to the Shimmer White c/s. Tex’s Tip: Then, to create the illusion of depth in the main image, I first stamped the central image, then immediately stamped the top image without reinking the stamp. Next, I “huffed” warm breath onto the stamp to remoisten remaining ink, then stamped the lower image. It’s very easy to achieve this look. If you haven’t tried it before, just practice it on a scrap piece of c/s and you’ll be ready to go!

There’s still plenty of time to order your own ‘Peaceful Wishes’ set if you didn’t fall in love with it last year. *wink* The cutting for these cards is very simple, and we have lots of time yet to create our stash of Christmas cards for early delivery. Both are so beautiful, Bev!! Peaceful Wishes continues to be one of my favorite Christmas sets, and your cards demonstrate why that is. I love the CBing and wide ribbon on the first, and the paper piercing and way you tied the ribbon on the second. Love them!!

Both these cards are just stunning! I love the layout and the colors. I love the use of the Old Olive and River Rock together. I’m certain I would have never chosen them myself but they do make quite a statement mixed with Real Red. I have looked at Peaceful Wishes so many times considering it to purchase but have never made the plunge. Thanks for sharing!
