Kitchens & Silver Linings …

Published by at 12:36 am under Bits & Thoughts

I hope y’all have had a sweet weekend!  I had planned to be stamping this afternoon … but as it turned out, we were busy with discovery and more kitchen demolition.  Oh well … it’s all for a good thing in the end!  So let me bring you up to date with our renovation project, since stamping hasn’t occurred today.

What a fascinating experience I had last week, as I was taken to a ginormous warehouse of granite & stone … truly an “eyes wide open” visit!  I selected our future countertops, the templates have been drawn, and we expect(ed) installation on Wednesday or Thursday this week … until this afternoon.  DH is doing a fabulous job of refinishing our kitchen cabinetry.  He pulled out the dishwasher as he was working on the lower cabinets.  Cabinet Mold 008 400That’s when he found the hidden secret … the dishwasher plumbing wasn’t sealed properly and has been dripping for who knows how long.  The wood, the cabinet floor, the cabinet walls were literally mushy with mold.

The rest of the day & most of tonight has been spent removing that entire wall of cabinets, including the sink.  I now have a waterless, sinkless kitchen!  (I’m not a gourmet cook, but sinkless is tricky!)  Now you must remember that my talentedCabinets mold 028 400X302 DH is Mr. Manager by day … but Mr. I-Love-Woodworking on his off-work hours.   I’m so blessed!  I honestly think that finding this awful surprise today was really the best thing.  Why?  If we hadn’t found it until weeks or months later … we would be tearing up our “new” kitchen … rather than the ‘non-renovated’ version!  Blessed!  Lucky!  It must be a silver lining … right here in my yucky-looking kitchen!

That’s the current status!  I’ve got a stamping club here tomorrow night … so I must switch gears and get everything prepped.   Y’all have a sweet Monday out there!  (If you have a notion that you’d like to get your hands dirty … give us a jingle!)  hahaha

Oh man Bev! I have so been there and done that. We did a kitchen remodel a little over a year ago and it was one thing wrong after another. I was sure happy when it was all finished. You’re gonna love the granite countertop. Wasn’t it an experience looking at all that pretty stone? It took me forever to pick out the right slab.
