Bidding Adieu – Treat Yourself

Published by at 4:06 pm under Stampin' Up! Projects

Adieu, Treat Yourself!

Like so many of my friends & co-stampers, I’ve been taking the opportunity to use some of my favorite retiring stamps while they’re still available.  “Treat Yourself” has been such a fun set to use & share.  One of my very favorite cards from this set was sent to me by Joy of Stamping a couple of years ago.  I created this new card as a part of my ‘Farewell’  classes in May/June.

If you haven’t used the Crayon Resist technique, you’ll want to give it a try some day.  The effect is very unique & shiny, since the resist technique is accomplished by stamping on glossy cardstock.  After stamping the main image with Classic Basic Black ink, be sure to allow time for the ink to dry before moving forward.  It can just be a few seconds, but you’ll avoid smearing the black ink if you’ll be sure it’s dry.  Next, use a crayon to mark the areas that you would like to see in ‘white’ after your project is finished.  The crayon can be any color … doesn’t need to be white, and is easier to see in other colors!  Once you’ve finished marking in the white areas, use sponge daubers to ink the rest of the areas in the desired colors.  Other sponges will also work, but I found the daubers inked well without leaving the lines of a sponge wedge on the finished piece.  When everything is colored as you wish, use a non-lotion tissue to gently rub away all of the crayon marks.  This technique provides an extra boost of shine to your projects.  Try it with one of your favorite ‘color book’ images soon!

The faux filmstrip feature is so easy to create with the Stampin’ Up! Spiral Punch.  I trimmed the Basic Black cardstock to 2 & 1/8″, attaching 1 & 3/8″ punched squares of white cardstock for the sentiments.  Using the Spiral Punch along the sides of the Basic Black cardstock is so quick & simple!

Great card!! I feel inspired to try the crayon technique again today, it’s been awhile! Maybe I’ll do it with my new Pick a Petal set when it arrives! And thanks for sharing the film strip technique with the spiral punch, haven’t seen that yet! I’m getting all kinds of great ideas to copy, thanks!
