Shake It Up, Turtle!

Shake It Turtle -IA 500

Every now & then we all need to have a little fun, and that’s just what this little turtle is all about!  It’s been a while since I’ve indulged in making a shaker card, so this was ‘overdue’ on my “have a little fun” scale.  *wink*   I had chosen the Bo Bunny printed paper before coloring the Inky Antics turtle, so the turtle has some fun pink colors on her shell and just little hints of pink on her tummy … very girly in her own way.

About those brads ==>  My many little containers of brads didn’t yield the right pink, so I had to resort to using silver brads, and giving them a little makeover.  Try it whenever you just don’t have the right metal color for your project!   Tex’s Technique:  Holding the brad with needle-nosed pliers or good, long tweezers, ink the brad with SU Craft ink, or another good pigment ink.  Next, dip the brad right into Iridescent Ice Embossing Powder, or Clear Embossing Powder according to your preference.  Use your heat tool to melt the E.P. … this is quick!  If the look is not bold enough, repeat the above steps.  Remember not to touch the brad for several seconds … even tiny hot metal is still hot metal.  I lay mine down on my Ranger Industries ‘Non-Stick Melt Art Craft Sheet’ from StarLitStudio.  I love the way that pad protects my table and countertops whenever I’m using heated products!

Card RecipeSTAMPS==> Inky Antics Turtle’s Balloon, IA Birthday Turtle Clear Set;  INK==>  SU Basic Black;  CARDSTOCK & PAPER==>  SU Pixie Pink, Whisper White, Bo Bunny printed papers;  ACCESSORIES==>  May Arts Ribbon (from StartLitStudio), SU Silver Brads, Iridescent Ice embossing powder, microbeads, sead beads, double-stick foam tape, clear acetate, PrismaColor Pencils, Gamsol, stumps (last 3 items and stamps are available at Inky Antics).

Congrats on your new grandson – how exciting for you and your family! I was born on my grandma’s birthday and have such great memories of sharing birthdays with her. How neat that your grandson will be able to share his big day with his mommy!

Gosh, I was just looking at some of my old shaker cards today–some of my very first when it was such a novelty. They weren’t nearly as cute as this! This is just darling. I love how you’ve used two sizes of beads in the shaker. I think I’ll try that next time. Thanks for a great idea!
