Turkey a la ‘Black Magic’

Turkey Black Magic 500×364

Have you checked out the Technique Lover’s Challenge to day at SCS?  TLC184 is a new-to-me technique called “Black Magic“.  (Complete instructions are found through the link provided.)  Essentially, you need a line-art stamp for coloring, a white pigment ink pad, PrismaColor Pencils (or other brands), odorless mineral spirits such as Gamsol, and black cardstock.  After stamping my images with the white pigment ink (& drying), I colored the images with Prismas dipped directly into a small amount of Gamsol.  The Gamsol softens the waxy part of the pigment, and allows a direct, smooth application of color.  When you ‘feel’ the color movement slow down, dip into the Gamsol again, repeating as necessary.  This creates a more vivid application of color than when we apply the Prisma colors to paper, then blend with a stump & mineral spirits.   Tex’s Tip:  Keep your colored pencils sharpened for small areas.  The image detail is somewhat lost when you color onto the white lines, and sharp pencils make this much easier.

Turkey blk mgk edge 385×225The top-fold card is a wee bit shorter in the front, to allow an edge of rust-colored cardstock to peek from behind the punched border.   I’m glad I tried this technique challenge!  It reminds me of those delightful pictures my first grade teacher, Mrs. Jacobs, used to draw & color for us on her blackboard … uhhhh … well more than a few years ago.  I was always amazed at what she could convey with chalks on the chalkboard.   Hopefully you’re enjoying a sweet long-weekend with friends &/or family today!  Thanks for visiting!
