Yeeeeehaaaaaww! Time to Rodeo!

It’s time to share a peek into my past.  “Buckle up!”

Originally, I’m from a very small town in Oklahoma.  The population has likely never surpassed 1,000.  I believe the average population is around the 800’s.   Our little town has/still has a First Baptist Church, First Christian Church, and a First Methodist Church.  There is a Catholic Church in another town 16 miles away.  Yep!  Small town country roots here!  Our High School class of 29 students was largely composed of kids who had started there together in 1st Grade … I’m one of them.   To this day, I love my former classmates, and many from classes before and after ours.  I maintain current relationships with many, especially the girls.   These friendships are ‘rich’ and fully from the heart.  We’ve seen each other at our worst and our best … and we love each other without judgement.   One of these life-long girlfriends always had horses, and was destined to become a true ‘horse woman’ and ‘horse trainer’ by profession.   Now, she is a director within the Women’s Pro Rodeo Association, as well as being a Champion Barrel Racer of many years.

Today, I’m tickled to be going to the Fort Worth Stock Yards Rodeo, an annual event just 45 minutes South of our home here in N. Texas, in the historic old-time stock yards of Fort Worth, Texas.  I’ll watch my sweet friend, Lanita Powers, as she barrel-races on ‘Cash’ … one of her favorite barrel horses that she trains in Oklahoma.  I was privileged to watch Lanita as she began to sample barrel-racing as we were young pre-teens … out on a dirt field, with barrels set up by her Daddy.  I was able to see her develop her riding through our youth.  I’ve only seen one of her professional rides as an adult, when my children were pretty young.  I met her impressive horse, ‘Cash’, a couple of years ago on one of my annual visits to spend with our classmate girls.  So I am beyond tickled to see her ride today!!   My camera is fully charged & packed … my spirits can barely be contained!  I won’t be near a stampin’ table, but if the pics are worthy, I’ll try to share a couple later tonight or on Monday.   This card could possibly be a ‘repeat’ from a much earlier post … but it captures the feeling I get when I revisit my history from the plains of Oklahoma.  Every now & then, I hope that a wee bit of that heritage shows through, especially today!  Thanks for stopping by … and I hope that your Sunday is all that you hope it will be!

~

I have a new Valentine card ready to show y’all … “after” the Rodeo!!   Come back soon!  ~

Good Luck, Lanita!  You’re always the Winner amongst us!
