Vintage Fashionista!

Published by at 12:09 am under Paper-Piecing,Rubbernecker,Tex's Tips

I’ve decided to share my latest vintage look … but first, I’ll explain (or re-tell) a bit about the inspiration behind this one.  I have a box of old patterns, ‘McCalls’, ‘Butterick’, and more.  They belonged to my Mom, and are all at least my age or older.  Now for those of you who have experience with dressmaking patterns, you know that they are made of thin, brownish tissue papers.  So needless to say, these are brittle and fragile, having survived many years, and even heat from a long-ago, devastating house fire.   This creation reminds me of the dresses of Mom’s era …. and the air-brushing that I added just seemed to surprise me with the feeling of those tender tissue papers.

As you might have noticed, this one is very basic.  I’ve added paper-piercing, followed by some light air-brushing with a neutral.  Tex’s Tip:  When paper-piecing, I always cover the ‘white cut edges’ of the paper with a neutral or matching color marker.  In other words, take away that “white cut” edge for a more finished/polished appearance.    The pearl stick-ons were actually white, until I colored them with a YG95 Copic Marker.  Unfortunately, using water-based markers will not work for coloring pearls, but for those of you who have purchased a few Copics (alcohol-based) markers, give it a try!  It’s too easy!

Thanks so much for your visit today!  I hope the remainder of your week brings unexpected blessings your way!
