… Friends are the Flowers

RN iris tppr 590×98

Here I go …. walkin’ out upon that clean & simple “plank”.  Argggghhhhh!   But I do so love challenges, and CAS (clean & simple) can often seem to be just that.   It was a sweet weekend of family and relaxing, so I think I’m ready to plunge into something out of the ordinary for my stampin’ fun today.

Long ago, my paternal Great-Grandparents immigrated to the United States from Germany.  They eventually arrived in Oklahoma, where they literally claimed a homestead, and continued to raise their family.  One of my treasured Uncles lived on that homestead as an adult, and I would get to visit with my Daddy … admiring the sheep and other farm animals, the wheat, and playing by myself while they chatted about the price of grain and the wish for rains.  Near the road/driveway was a single, weathered tree … and beneath that tree was countless purple iris plants.  Now my Uncle didn’t water them … only the sparce Oklahoma rains took care of the watering of flowers, trees, and wheat.    He had even transplanted some of them to the little country cemetery.

Ooooops! … now back to the stampy-stuff!

Yes … here it is, clean & simple!  The only “embellishments” (stretching here …) are the scallop cuts atop the image layer and on the ends of the patterned paper strips …. sponged with ink to define the contrasts. RN Iris inside 375x267   Can I see my self making more of these??  Oh yes … such a quick one for my card stash!  You’re invited to do the same .. we all need something to fall back on in a hurry!  I’ve left the inside free of sentiments, although I did stamp a subtle repeat of the image, leaving plenty of space for a birthday greeting, thinking of you, let’s get together, etc.  Truly open-ended!    This one is the traditional A2 card, horizontally sized 4.25″ X 5.5″ with a top-fold.

Thanks so much for stopping by!  I hope you’ve found a wee bit of inspiration today!

  1. Oh I was totally into your wonderful story about visiting the homestead. Thanks for sharing that little piece of your life with us. Your card is beautiful, Bev. Had to smile at your saying how hard CAS is for you.. I really struggle with it, too. I look at a CAS creation and love them, but when I try to do one it just doesn’t look right. Yours looks right and perfect. Great job.
