Christmas … Desert Style!

Ahhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhh ….. Christmas in the desert!    Follow your compass to the nearest & dearest desert area … that’s what I’ve tried to do with this one.   The SCS monthly theme involves traveling around the compass … so let’s get to it!

If you’ve read my blog for a length of time, you might know that once every now & then I am blessed to visit a life-long friend who now lives in New Mexico.  Those rare visits are my only “real” experience with desert winters.  During one of those visits a few years ago, I actually played in the snow in a long-sleeved shirt (no jacket), but the sunshine kept us so warm that the chill was truly absent.  (In fact, my Kindergarten students loved the crunchy, unusual leaves & pictures that I brought back for our Science table that year.)  Naturally, when I spotted this stamp at Rubbernecker, I didn’t even have to “think” before ordering it …. it was a natural.  I know just who will enjoy receiving a card from it.

This card is obviously in the clean & simple style (CAS) …. not my usual genre … but I do dabble there once in a while.   That’s my DD’s place to ‘shine’, and the true comfort in the CAS style seems to elude me.  But, that’s good for ‘variety’ … right?!    The CAS92 challenge this week asked us to use pink, kraft, & olive green as the main colors.  Bingo!  I love those colors!

Yes … it’s “real” sand …. clean indeed, and sold in a big bag for floral purposes.  I love being able to add “true” texture from time to time … and this is a favorite of mine.  I used clear Glossy Accents, dabbed a bit, and spread a wee bit with a toothpick to get the adhesive in random places as the grounding element for the cactus.  I set it atop my desk lamp for  a few minutes, and voila!  Ready to go!    I hope you can see the subtle shimmer of the white shimmer cardstock.  It’s there, I promise!

Thanks a bunch for your visit today!   I always adore hearing from my visitors.   Here’s to a marvelous new week for everyone!
