Cool Nostalgia!

Published by at 12:01 am under Rubbernecker

Every now & then, I feel the urge to dabble in bits of nostalgia.  I have a limited number of old “treaures’ that I adore, while my daughter actually makes a practice of collecting delightful, “shabby chic” treasures when she can briefly slip away for some bargaining at a favorite  flea market or garage sales.   Anyway, I do adore oldies, and some of those same old “finds” as well.

Of course, my card isn’t an antique, and it’s not even shabby chic … but it reminds me of older, simpler times when the U.S. was finally breaking away from the depression years and the end of a war most of us have only studied about.   Music was taking a new turn toward something called “rock & roll” … to the joy of many young people I am sure!

The “Cool” sentiment was stamped with red pigment ink, then heat embossed with clear embossing powder.   {Click on the little close-up for a better catch of the embossing gloss. }  The photo also shows the early stages of the “out of the box” technique, as the shoes were left in place while the rectangle die was cut around them.  Later, a second “pair of shoes” was popped up above this pair, for added dimension.  The entire card reminds me of the classic “American Bandstand” with Dick Clark.  Even my Mom liked to watch it!  Cool, huh?

I hope you liked the bitty brief visit back to the 50’s!  All stamps are from Rubbernecker StampsHey, by the way!  Check out the not-entirely-new-but-rather-returning Rubbernecker Blog!  We’re currently introducing our 2011 Design Team, and soon will follow with some previews, blog hops and more.   Sure hope you’ll take a look!   Thanks for your moments with me here at Savor the Journey!

Our town had a drive-in called Smiley’sthat my sisters went to during their teen dating years. This definitely reminds me of that time. Also, I was never too fond of saddle oxfords after I had to wear them in the form of corrective shoes for years. LOL! This card is precious. I love the out of the box shoes but am not successful at doing that technique with my dies. I also get it messed up.
